Individualized Academic Advancement
I've been working with high school students for 45 years - as a teacher, an IB Coordinator and a University Counselor. I've taught IB English, History, Philosophy, ToK and Psychology, as well as Social Studies and English, grades 7 to 12. I am familiar with US, UK, Canadian and Japanese university systems, and I have helped students apply to 23 countries. I offer consultations with students and families to determine the best way forward to be proactive with homework, essays and assignments; prepare for standardized tests; make up missed credits with recovery classes; and with University planning and applications.
After being a classroom teacher, IB Coordinator and College Counselor for over 35 years, in 2018 I began working with schools and students on an individual, consultant basis from office next to Todoroki station in Tokyo, working with 5 to 15 students a year. Let me see if I can help you!
Pricing options and meeting sessions
1. Single session ¥15,000
Infrequent students' rate for 90 minutes. If once a month, then weekends only. (Arranged lessons must be canceled within 36 hours of the session to avoid the single session charge.)
2. Monthly ¥50,000
Once a week meetings, 90 to 120 minutes with unlimited email correspondence. Missed or canceled sessions will be rescheduled. Canceled meetings due to tutor’s availability would be deducted from the monthly rate, i.e. during vacation weeks.
3. Monthly ¥75,000
Two or three weekly meetings (of 3 to 4 hours collectively), with unlimited email correspondence. Missed or canceled sessions will be rescheduled. Canceled meetings due to tutor’s availability would be deducted from the monthly rate, i.e. during vacation weeks.
4. Yearly ¥650,00
Two to three weekly meetings (of 3 to 4 hours collectively), with unlimited email follow up over the course of the year, including summers. Missed or canceled sessions will be rescheduled. Canceled meetings due to tutor’s availability would be deducted from the monthly rate, i.e. during vacation weeks.

Currently I am working with a school in Kyoto remotely two days a week as a University advisor, and with three students on weekends, tutoring IB History, IB English, SAT preparation and college planning.
Two of the students are seniors, so I will have ample time on weekends (and weekend evenings) in the months and year ahead. At present, I meet with all students via Zoom, but I am available to tutor in person from my office in Todoroki in Tokyo.
